In Studio S toont RESILIENCE een screening met videowerken van kunstenaars Pauline Curnier Jardin, Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Juliette Blightman, Ada M Patterson en Tourmaline. Als geheel brengt de screening een eigenzinnige kijk op het potentieel en de mogelijke betekenissen van “resilience,” waarbij heersende entiteiten, structuren en representaties worden uitgedaagd. Het begrip wordt vooral verkent in relatie tot queer gemeenschappen en marginalisatie. Er wordt ingezoomd op de strategieën die voortkomen uit de ervaringen van specifieke culturele en subculturele groepen die te maken hebben met stress of uitsluiting. In deze context wordt ook het begrip “queer thriving” - als een concept dat verder gaat dan veerkracht - relevant. Bloei, in het bijzonder “queer thriving,” gaat verder dan herstel of genezing. Het is het overstijgen van het vroegere zelf; een vorm van groei, ontstaan uit tegenslag, die ingaat tegen sociale normen.

De screening wordt getoond in een scenografie met zitmeubilair ontworpen door de Franse textielontwerper en kunstenaar Emma Cogné.

Au Studio S, RESILIENCE présente une projection d’œuvres vidéo des artistes Pauline Curnier Jardin, Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Juliette Blightman, Ada M Patterson et Tourmaline. La présentation dans son ensemble apporte une vision très personnelle du potentiel et des significations possibles de la « résilience », tout en remettant en question les entités, les structures et les représentations dominantes. Le concept est spécifiquement étudié dans le contexte des communautés queer et de la marginalisation. L’exposition s’attarde sur les stratégies qui émergent des expériences vécues par des groupes culturels et sous-culturels confrontés au stress ou à l’exclusion. Le concept de « queer thriving », qui dépasse la simple idée de résilience, est également pertinent dans ce contexte. L’épanouissement, et en particulier le « queer thriving », va bien au-delà du rétablissement ou de la guérison. Il s’agit d’un dépassement de soi, d’une forme d’évolution née de l’adversité, qui s’oppose aux normes sociales établies.

La scénographie de la projection sera composée de sièges conçus par l’artiste et designeuse textile française Emma Cogné.

The concept of resilience, which refers to adaptability or persistence, is gaining increasing attention across various disciplines. It has become a central topic of debate, particularly in psychology, public health, and mental well-being. Resilience represents the capacity of a system, organisation, or individual to respond to and recover from a crisis, disruptive process, or significant change. It is a term that typically gains relevance during times of upheaval. The many new challenges we face today, driven by the rapid succession of changes and crises in human life, compel us to seek effective responses. Coherent strategies, such as resilience, for addressing these challenges are becoming increasingly important. In both our immediate environment and globally, we observe actions, gestures, and expressions of 'resilience'—such as strength, tenacity, elasticity, perseverance, and stubbornness—as alternative responses. At Studio S, RESILIENCE features a screening of video works by artists Pauline Curnier Jardin, Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro, Juliette Blightman, Ada M. Patterson, and Tourmaline.
