Ze gebruikt acties en objecten om directe, persoonlijke associaties aan te wakkeren en een specifieke context te belichten. Tijdens haar interventies brengt ze zowel aanwezige als afwezige elementen tot uitdrukking en verkent ze verschillende vormen van communicatie. Het eigenzinnige oeuvre is het resultaat van een associatieve werkmethodiek. Haar praktijk vertrekt onder meer van de antroposofie die uitgaat van een geestelijke wereld die toegankelijk zou zijn via innerlijke ontwikkeling. Zo zijn belangrijke inspiratiebronnen voor dit project geschriften van Ouspensky, de nalatenschap van choreograaf George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, het gedachtegoed van grondlegger van de antroposofie Rudolf Steiner en de spirituele zoektocht van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Bas Jan Ader.

Voor haar tentoonstelling in Cc Strombeek neemt Van der Mark The Doors of Perception (1954) van de auteur Aldous Huxley als vertrekpunt. In parallel met de psychedelische ervaring die Huxley in een ceremoniële context meemaakt en beschrijft, evoceert de expo een nieuwe perceptie van triviale objecten en het gangbare discours. Van der Mark vroeg een dertigtal mannelijke vrienden, familieleden en personen die haar pad kruisten, om hun persoonlijke visie te geven op dit document. De oranje sfeer die je ervaart bij het betreden van de tentoonstelling onthult een installatie van kunstmatig verlichte dakkoepels die een verscheidenheid aan innerlijke werelden verbeeldt. Elke afzonderlijke koepel bevat een creatie van één deelnemer: The Doors of Perception, een kopie gemaakt met hun eigen printer, voorzien van persoonlijke aantekeningen op elke pagina. De aangrenzende ruimte daarentegen straalt wit licht uit en bevat organische elementen. Het toont een performatieve installatie waarbij twee groeiprocessen met in water opgeloste pigmenten plaatsvinden: de vorming van een kristalstructuur en witte anjers die kleurstoffen absorberen. Het werk verbeeldt een passage uit Huxley’s boek waarin bloemen (rozen, anjers) en kristallen (amethisten) gebruikt worden als symbool voor vergankelijkheid.

Tijdens de vernissage op vrijdag 1 maart vindt er om 20:00 een performance plaats van Myrthe van der Mark en Joachim Badenhorst (gratis).

Elle utilise un ensemble d’actions accompagnées d’objets pour susciter des réactions directes, ces associations personnelles mettent en évidence un contexte spécifique. Lors de ses interventions, elle explore différentes formes de communications qu’elle exprime à la fois par des éléments présents et latents. Son œuvre singulière est le résultat d'une méthodologie de travail associative. Sa pratique s’appuie sur l'anthroposophie qui présuppose parmi ses principes celui d’un monde spirituel accessible par le développement d’une intériorité. Les écrits d'Ouspensky, l'héritage du chorégraphe George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, les idées du fondateur de l'anthroposophie Rudolf Steiner ainsi que la quête spirituelle de l'artiste néerlandais Bas Jan Ader constituent d'importantes sources d'inspiration pour ce projet.

Pour son exposition au CC Strombeek, Van der Mark prend comme point de départ Les Portes de la Perception (1954) de l'auteur Aldous Huxley. Parallèlement à l'expérience psychédélique vécue et décrite par Huxley dans un contexte cérémoniel, l'exposition évoque une nouvelle perception des objets triviaux et du discours dominant. Van der Mark a demandé à une trentaine d'amis masculins, des membres de sa famille et des personnes qui ont croisé son chemin, de donner leur avis personnel sur cet écrit. L'atmosphère orangée artificielle, que l'on ressent en entrant dans l'exposition, sublime l’installation des dômes Skylight qui dépeignent une variété de mondes intérieurs. Chaque dôme contient la création d'un participant: Les Portes de la Perception, une copiée produite avec leur propre imprimante et annotée personnellement sur l’ensemble des pages. L'espace adjacent, à contrario, rayonne de lumière blanche et d’éléments organiques. Dans cet espace de l'exposition, l'artiste présente une installation performative impliquant deux processus de croissance avec des pigments dissous dans l'eau: la formation d'une structure cristalline et d'œillets blancs qui absorbent des colorants. L'œuvre illustre un passage du livre de Huxley dans lequel des fleurs (roses, œillets) et des cristaux (améthystes) sont utilisés pour symboliser l'impermanence.

Lors du vernissage du vendredi 1er mars, une performance avec Myrthe van der Mark en Joachim Badenhorst aura lieu à 20h00 (gratuit).

During her interventions, she expresses both present and absent elements and explores different forms of communication. Her unique oeuvre is the result of an associative working methodology. Her practice departs from anthroposophy, among other principles, which assumes a spiritual world that would be accessible through inner development. Thus, important sources of inspiration for this project are writings by Ouspensky, the legacy of choreographer George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, the ideas of founder of anthroposophy Rudolf Steiner and the spiritual quest of Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader.

For her exhibition at CC Strombeek, Van der Mark takes The Doors of Perception (1954) by author Aldous Huxley as a point of departure. In parallel with the psychedelic experience Huxley experiences and describes in a ceremonial context, the exhibition evokes a new perception of trivial objects and mainstream discourse. Van der Mark asked some 30 male friends, family members and individuals who crossed her path to give their personal views on this document. The orange atmosphere you experience upon entering the exhibition reveals an installation of artificially lit Skylight domes depicting a variety of inner worlds. Each individual dome contains a creation by a single participant: The Doors of Perception, a copy produced with their own printer, personally annotated on each page. The adjacent space, in contrast, radiates white light and contains organic elements. In this area of the exhibition the artist presents a performative installation involving two growth processes with pigments dissolved in water: the formation of a crystal structure and white carnations which absorb dyes. The work depicts a passage from Huxley's book in which flowers (roses, carnations) and crystals (amethysts) are used to symbolise impermanence.

During the vernissage on Friday, March 1, a performance by Myrthe van der Mark and Joachim Badenhorst will take place at 8 p.m. (free).
