Voor deze tentoonstelling duikt de kunstenares in de wereld van de zee en de oceanen. Het project neemt de wijdverspreide vervuiling door microplastics als uitgangspunt en onderzoekt de gradaties tussen toxiciteit en leven in de huidige samenleving. De tentoonstelling is tegelijk een voortzetting van Novitskova’s onderzoek naar hoe technologie onze relatie met de natuur verandert, met name door deze te registreren, te verzamelen en in kaart te brengen.

De verschijning van fotosynthese op aarde werd gevolgd door een grote sterfte. Zuurstof, dat later essentieel werd voor meercellig leven, vormde lange tijd een grote destabiliserende factor. Nu plastic op planetaire schaal verteerbaar wordt, zou het leven zoals wij dat kennen opnieuw radicaal kunnen veranderen. Hoe zal de revolutie van “het plastic eten” de geur van de oceaan veranderen? Centraal in de tentoonstelling staat een nieuw kunstwerk dat in samenwerking met de Noorse kunstenaar en onderzoeker Sissel Tolaas is gemaakt. Een meeslepende geur introduceert een tastbare reuk van de post-plastic wereld in de tentoonstellingsruimte. Samen met een reeks recente werken en een nieuwe video wordt een futuristisch universum gecreëerd.

Pour cette exposition, l'artiste se plonge dans l'univers de la mer et des océans. Partant de la pollution généralisée par les microplastiques, le projet explore les nuances entre toxicité et vie dans la société actuelle. L'exposition s'inscrit également dans la continuité des recherches de l'artiste sur la manière dont la technologie modifie notre relation à la nature, notamment à travers son enregistrement, sa collecte et sa cartographie.

L'apparition de la photosynthèse sur terre a été suivie d'une grande extinction. L'oxygène, qui est devenu plus tard essentiel à la vie multicellulaire, a longtemps été un grand facteur de déstabilisation. Alors que le plastique devient désormais digestible à l'échelle planétaire, la vie telle que nous la connaissons pourrait à nouveau se transformer radicalement. Lorsque la révolution « mangeuse de plastique » s'impose, comment modifiera-t-elle l'odeur de l'océan ? Au cœur de l'exposition se trouve une œuvre d'art nouvellement commandée, réalisée en collaboration avec l'artiste et chercheuse norvégienne Sissel Tolaas. Un parfum immersif introduit une odeur tangible du monde post-plastique dans l'espace d'exposition. Associée à une série d'œuvres récentes et à une nouvelle vidéo, elle permettra de créer un univers futuriste.

For this exhibition, the artist delves into the world of the sea and oceans. Using its widespread pollution by microplastics as a starting point, the project explores the gradients between toxicity and life in today’s society. The exhibition continues the artist’s research into how technology reshapes our relationship with nature, particularly through recording, collecting, and mapping it.

The emergence of photosynthesis on Earth was followed by a great dying. Oxygen, which later became essential for multicellular life, had for a long time been a great destabilizer. As plastic becomes digestible on a planetary scale, life as we know it might radically transform once again. When “the plastic-eating” revolution takes hold, how will it modify the smell of the ocean? At the heart of the exhibition lies a newly commissioned artwork made in collaboration with Norwegian artist and researcher Sissel Tolaas. An embodying smell brings the post-plastic world tangibly into the exhibition space. Together with a series of recent works and a new video, a futuristic universe is established.
