Het werk van Gwendolyn Lootens is immaterieel, kwetsbaar en vluchtig. Herhalende gebaren en alledaagse voorwerpen geven aanleiding tot een abstracte, vaak speelse beeldtaal. Ze onderzoekt ook hoe tekenen, abstractie en herhaling zich verhouden tot materiële en in toenemende mate immateriële arbeid.

In het project “scales of a moment” onderzoekt Lootens ruimtelijke concepten die zowel binnen een tentoonstelling als in een performatieve context functioneren. Het benadrukt de spanning tussen objectieve en subjectieve ervaringen van schaal (zowel in termen van tijd als ruimte). Door het archief te ontvouwen en te activeren, verweeft de kunstenaar tekening, video, geluid en performance, altijd met oog voor de sociale en participatieve dimensies van haar praktijk. Het project ontvouwt zich via vier pijlers, ontwikkeld in dialoog met diverse samenwerkingspartners: het materialiseren van videowerken in de ruimte, het ontwikkelen van polysonische geluidsinstallaties, het creëren van mobiele scenografische elementen en het verkennen van tekenen en video als vormen van choreografie.

Le travail de Gwendolyn Lootens est immatériel, fragile et éphémère. Des gestes répétitifs et des objets du quotidien donnent naissance à un langage visuel abstrait, souvent ludique. Elle explore également la manière dont le dessin, l’abstraction et la répétition s’articulent avec le travail matériel et, de plus en plus, immatériel.

Dans le projet « scales of a moment », Lootens explore des concepts spatiaux qui s’inscrivent à la fois dans un contexte d’exposition et dans un contexte performatif. Ce projet met en évidence la tension entre les expériences objectives et subjectives de l’échelle (tant en termes de temps que d’espace). En déployant et en dynamisant ses archives, l’artiste entremêle dessin, vidéo, son et performance, en gardant toujours à l’esprit les dimensions sociales et participatives de sa pratique. Le projet s’articule autour de quatre axes, développés en dialogue avec divers collaborateurs : la matérialisation d’œuvres vidéo dans l’espace, le développement d’installations sonores polysoniques, la création d’éléments scénographiques mobiles et l’exploration du dessin et de la vidéo en tant que formes de chorégraphie.

The work of Gwendolyn Lootens is immaterial, fragile, and ephemeral. Repetitive gestures and everyday objects give rise to an abstract, often playful visual language. She’s also exploring how drawing, abstraction and repetition relates to material and increasingly immaterial labour.

In the project scales of a moment, Lootens explores spatial concepts that operate both within exhibition and in performative context. It emphasizes the tension between objective and subjective experiences of scale (both in terms of time and in terms of space). Unfolding and activating the archive, the artist weaves together drawing, video, sound, and performance, always with an eye for the social and participatory dimensions of her practice. The project unfolds through four pillars, developed in dialogue with various collaborators: materializing video works within space, developing polysonic sound installations, creating mobile scenographic elements, and exploring drawing and video as forms of choreography.
