Francesca Hawker (°1992, VK) is een kunstenaar-onderzoeker die in Brussel woont. Ze werkt in en rond de live-context en de vage sociale, ruimtelijke en temporele grenzen daarvan, waarbij ze gebruikmaakt van verschillende media, waaronder spoken word-optredens, poëzie, installaties, muziek en zelfpublicaties. Haar werk is inherent collaboratief en humoristisch, aangezien het zich afspeelt binnen de „slapstick van alledaagse relaties“, door Lauren Berlant gedefinieerd als een manier om „te proberen voldoende in hetzelfde gesprek te blijven om samen iets op te bouwen dat geen van beiden alleen zou kunnen bouwen“. Momenteel is ze doctoraatsstudente en docent aan de LUCA School of Arts in Gent, waar ze onderzoek doet naar de rol die verlegenheid speelt in performatieve kaders. Francesca Hawker (née en 1992 au Royaume-Uni) est une artiste-chercheuse vivant à Bruxelles. Elle travaille dans et sur le contexte du « live » et ses frontières sociales, spatiales et temporelles poreuses, en recourant à différents médias, notamment la performance de spoken word, la poésie, l’installation, la musique et l’auto-édition. Son travail est intrinsèquement collaboratif et humoristique, car il s’inscrit dans le « slapstick des relations ordinaires », défini par Lauren Berlant comme une manière « d’essayer de rester suffisamment dans la même conversation pour construire ensemble quelque chose qu’aucun de nous ne pourrait construire seul ». Elle est actuellement doctorante et enseignante à la LUCA School of Arts de Gand, où elle mène des recherches sur le rôle joué par la gêne dans les cadres de performance. Francesca Hawker (b. 1992, UK) is an artist researcher living in Brussels. She works in and on the live context and its leaky social, spatial, and temporal boundaries, utilising different media including spoken word performance, poetry, installation, music, and self-publishing. Her work is inherently collaborative and humorous, as it takes place within the “slapstick of ordinary relation”, defined by Lauren Berlant as a way of “trying to stay in the same enough conversation in order to build something together that neither of us could build by ourselves." She is currently a PhD candidate and teacher at LUCA School of Arts in Gent, where she is researching the role played by embarrassment in performance frameworks. Her work has been presented at diverse venues including Cafe Oto, London; Beursschouwburg, Brussels; KIOSK, Gent; Cas-co, Leuven; and Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich, and at a number of festivals including Oscillation (organised by Q02), Brussels; KONVOOI, Bruges; and International Performance Art Giswil, Switzerland.
