De praktijk van Katya Ev (°1983, Moskou, woont en werkt in Brussel) onderzoekt de complexe relatie tussen de maatschappij, de economie en het lichaam, met als doel ons potentieel voor politiek handelen binnen dominante machtsstructuren bloot te leggen.

Ev ondermijnt objecten die behoren tot de staatsmacht, instrumenten van het alledaagse kapitalisme (wetten, contracten) of rituelen en gebaren die als gewoon of banaal worden beschouwd. Zo construeert Ev haar performatieve taal om te reflecteren op sociaal-politieke en culturele codes en de status quo in artistieke en niet-artistieke domeinen te veranderen.

In het najaar presenteert Cc Strombeek de allereerste solotentoonstelling van Katya Ev in België die melk als culturele metafoor verkent.

In 2020 voltooide Katya Ev haar postdoctorale residentie aan het HISK in Gent, nadat ze was afgestudeerd aan de Beaux-Arts de Paris en een MA in politieke wetenschappen had behaald aan de Lomonosov Universiteit in Moskou. Haar werk is onder andere tentoongesteld bij het National Museum of Contemporary Art – EMST, Athene (2022), Netwerk Aalst (2021), M HKA (Antwerpen, 2020), Palais de Tokyo (Parijs, 2018), de 6e Biënnale van Thessaloniki (2017, parallel programma), Winzavod Art Center (Moskou, 2015, speciaal project 6e Biënnale van Moskou). Ze is geassocieerd artieste van Jubilee (B) en sci van PAF (Performing Arts Forum, F).

La pratique de Katya Ev (°1983, Moscou, vit et travaille à Bruxelles) étudie la relation complexe entre la société, l’économie et le corps, dans le but d’identifier notre potentiel d’action politique au sein des structures de pouvoir dominantes.

En subvertissant des objets qui appartiennent au pouvoir de l’État, des outils du capitalisme quotidien (lois, contrats) ou des rituels et des gestes perçus comme ordinaires ou banals, Ev construit un langage performatif qui incite à réfléchir aux codes sociopolitiques et culturels et à bouleverser le statu quo dans les domaines artistiques et non artistiques.

En automne, le Cc Strombeek présente la toute première exposition solo de Katya Ev en Belgique, qui explore le lait en tant que métaphore culturelle.

Katya Ev vit et travaille entre Paris et Bruxelles. En 2020, elle a effectué une résidence postuniversitaire au HISK, à Gand, après avoir été diplômée des Beaux-Arts de Paris et avoir obtenu une maîtrise en sciences politiques à l’Université Lomonosov de Moscou. Son travail a notamment été exposé au National Museum of Contemporary Art - EMST, à Athènes (2022), au Netwerk Aalst (2021), au M HKA (Anvers, 2020), au Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2018), à la 6e Biennale de Thessalonique (2017, programme parallèle) et au Winzavod Art Center (Moscou, 2015, projet spécial de la 6e Biennale de Moscou). Katya Ev est artiste associée à Jubilee (BE), membre de la FAP (BE) et du NICC (BE), et sci du PAF (Performing Arts Forum, FR).

By subverting objects that belong to state power, tools of everyday capitalism (laws, contracts), or rituals and gestures perceived as ordinary or banal, Ev constructs her performative language in order to reflect on socio-political and cultural codes and change the status quo in artistic and non-artistic realms.

In autumn, Cc Strombeek will present the very first solo exhibition of Katya Ev in Belgium that explores milk as a cultural metaphor.
